Why Doesn't the Review Option Appear for an Abstract Reviewer When Logged In?

Last updated Jul 20, 2026

Question

An abstract reviewer can submit reviews when an admin logs in as them, but the reviewer herself doesn't see the review option when logging in. What causes this issue, and how can it be resolved?

Answer

In Dryfta, the review option for abstracts is typically accessible through the frontend user interface, where reviewers perform their tasks. If a reviewer logs into the backend (administrator area) but does not have the necessary access permissions, they may not see the option to review abstracts despite being assigned the 'Reviewer' role.

When an admin logs in as the reviewer in the backend, the admin's broader permissions allow viewing all modules, including review submissions, but the reviewer’s own login might have restricted access.

To resolve this:
1. Ensure the reviewer logs into the frontend URL of your Dryfta event site, not the backend admin URL.
2. If the reviewer needs to access the backend, assign the "Admin staff" role (or other appropriate roles granting access to the abstracts and reviews modules) in their user profile within the backend.

Steps to assign the role:
- Go to the user’s profile in the backend.
- Select the "Admin staff" role (or suitable role) from the roles dropdown on the right side.
- Click save.

This grants the user the necessary permissions to access the review modules in the backend, enabling the review option to appear. Otherwise, the review functionality should remain accessible from the frontend for users with the Reviewer role.
