Why does a reviewer see the same submission twice in their review assignments?

Last updated Jul 22, 2026

Question

A reviewer has been assigned the same abstract submission twice in their review list. What could cause this, and how can I resolve it?

Answer

This situation can occur if the author has submitted the same abstract more than once, resulting in multiple submission entries with different submission IDs. Since the reviewer is assigned to review all submissions from authors, the reviewer will see each submission separately, even if they are duplicates.

To resolve this, check if the author has multiple submissions that are identical or very similar. You can then manage these by:

1) Verifying with the author whether the duplicates are intentional or accidental.

2) Removing or merging duplicate submissions if appropriate.

3) Updating reviewer assignments accordingly to avoid duplicate reviews.

Note that the platform shows submissions by unique submission IDs; identical content submitted twice will appear as separate items in review assignments.
