Why do submission types show "(open)" and can it be removed?

In the submission type labels like "Paper (open)" and "Poster (open)", why does the word "(open)" appear, and is there a way to remove it? Also, can the submission type selection be changed into a dropdown list?

The "(open)" wording that appears next to submission types such as "Paper (open)" and "Poster (open)" indicates that submissions for these categories are currently open according to the submission deadlines set for each type. 

This is a default feature in the system to help users identify which submission types are accepting entries at the moment. 

This "(open)" label is part of the default system behavior and cannot be removed or hidden. Regarding the submission type selection interface, it is not possible to convert the submission type selection into a dropdown list; it is fixed as per the platform's design.
